As the days start to grow a little brighter and lighter, Moodyhair have this...Guide to Going Blonde.
Going blonde can be as strong as subtle as you you want it, it depends on what results you want to see and what commitment you’re prepared to make.
Subtle blonde highlights through the top give hair a beautiful, healthy looking, sun kissed look. It’s a quick service that’s relatively inexpensive and avoids the need for regular root touch-ups.
Here at Moodyhair we use Redken Hi Lift tints that are low in ammonia and create beautiful soft shades of lighter hair from from warm caramels through to gentle honey shades and baby beige blondes.
If you’re thinking of a more vibrant blonde, pastel beiges or even platinums, consider that although these are all stunning looks, they do need regular root re-touches which require a commitment of time...and money, however they do create absolutely stunning looks!
Modern day lightening products are very sophisticated and there’s really no need to sacrifice hair condition. Here at Moodyhair we use Redken lighteners such as Blonde Glam Ammonia Free or Flash Lift. Both these products leave 100% of the hairs lipidic rate, which means your stays in amazing, soft condition. Applying home colour lighteners is a very risky business, the chemicals involved require very careful formulating and usually need toning afterwards if you’re to avoid the brassy orange or canary yellow creations that can easily result.
Once your lighter and brighter you need a specialist product for blonde hair, Redken’s Blonde Glam range is wonderful for lighter hair. It contains “Crystal Mica” tiny particles that reflect light and enhance shine. It has amazing conditioning benefits to keep your hair soft and healthy. Blonde Glam’s Perfect Platinum is fantastic after care rinse to banish brassy yellow tones and leave blonde hair beautiful and bright.
Talk to your stylist and if necessary ask them to create a strand test for you so you can see the final result on a piece of your own hair. Above all, once your blonde, remember to have more fun!

For men, its the retro short back 'n' sides that's the lasting trend for 2013 at Moodyhair...
It used to be the staple of the traditional barbershop, but toward the end of last year the old “short back ‘n sides” started to creep into the fashionable boutiques and bars of every town in the country….including Moodyhair, and it looks like it’s here to stay quite a while longer.
It started as a bit of a retro, underground movement but is now thoroughly mainstream.
Men allover the UK are following in the footsteps of the likes of David Beckham, Robert Pattinson and Leonardo De Caprio.
Here at Moodyhair the hair is cut traditionally, high and tight at the sides and the back, but the 21st century twist is to leave the hair a little longer and slightly disconnected through the top, especially toward the front and fringe.
The longer lengths can be dressed with a little height and perhaps a bit of quiff using products like wax or styling putty such as Wax Blast 10 or Rough Paste 12, lightly applied into damp, towel tried hair and combed into shape while still wet. Allowing the hair to dry, the top can then be brushed out with the fingers and finished off with another small amount of product into dry hair.
Hit movies such as the new Gangster Squad and TV shows like Boardwalk Empire mean this trend is set to continue. So for that real Chicago town style, while still wet, slick back the longer top with styling creams or gels, , keep the hair fairly flat to the head then add a low side parting for that classic, tailored 20’s look.
For those chaps who may have a little less hair on top, keep the top short and styled slightly to one side, keep the back and sides short and tight and ask your Moodyhair stylist to build up the weight toward the top in a slight taper.
Whether you hark back to James Dean or Elliot Ness, the clean sharp lines of the short back ‘n sides will keep you fresh and stylish well in to the coming year. Call the salon to book yoru appointment at Moodyhair

Winter hair trends are definitely going back in time thanks to hit period drama’s like Downton Abbey. The surge of vintage hair and styling looks set to continue as people are inspired by the glamour and sophistication of a romantic yesteryear.
Key looks are waves and soft gentle curls along with sleek shine and sweeping fringes.
If you already have short or collar length hair your ahead of the game, if you’re hair’s longer and you don’t want to cut it consider pinning it up creating a loose ponytail tied just below the collar, then turning the ends back under the rest of the hair to create a “faux bob” shape.
It’s all about crests and finger waves and soft baby curls onto the face. Ask you stylist to wave the top or fringe of your hair using wide curling tongs or pin curls. It can be done after your usual haircut and should only take a few extra minutes.
Although a little trickier to do yourself, it is possible with care and practice. Blowdry your hair sleek and flat, then add a heat styling spray for protection and hold.
You’ll need a round barrel tong or one the new styling “wands” (you could use straightening irons if you already have the knack of creating waves with them).
Take vertical sections about 3cm wide, place the barrel close to the root and carefully wind the hair length down the barrel, always winding toward your face at the sides, or in the same direction on the fringe. Allow the rolls to cool and set, before brushing out with a soft bristle brush working downward. Allow the waves to form naturally and then exaggerate the peaks and troughs by gently pushing in with the edge of your hand while applying a medium hold hairspray. Don’t forget to accessorise for the party season with sparkling slides and bows to emphasise that 20’s glamour. Chin Chin!

Decided to grow your hair...read this guide.
As the warm summer months subside many people take the opportunity to grow their hair for autumn and winter so here are a few things to bear in mind.
First of all, and most important, don’t stop going to the hairdressers! Many people believe the best way to grow their hair longer is to stop having it cut. Although this may help in the short term, after three to four months the ends of the hair will start to become dry, brittle and frayed, this will result in splits and breakage, often with more hair breaking off than has actually grown. In reality, regular small “trims” will keep the ends of your hair strong and healthy and ultimately result in more effective hair growth.
On average hair grows around 2cm per month, commit to a regular appointment every 6-8 weeks and speak to your stylist about cutting just ½cm each visit, this will still allow your hair to grow healthily and prevent any ends from splitting beyond control. Don’t be put off by generalizations that hairdressers always cut hair short, it’s simply not true. Here at Moodyhair we care about what you want and we really listen. Book a free consultation and talk with your stylist, let them know your long terms plans, discuss what length you’d like your hair to be and by when, make a plan!
Ask their advice about the best methods to prevent ends from splitting, here at Moodyhair we have specialist equipment such as thermal heated scissors that seal and protect delicate ends to drastically reduce splits and breakages. Protein treatments that are left in the ends of the hair are also really effective, try Redken Extreme Anti Snap or brand new Radiant 10 if your hair is coloured.
We can help you get where you want to be the easiest way in the minimum time. Call the salon now and lets get started….!

As we stride into Summer everything is coming into full bloom and bursting with life. As we get ourselves pampered and preened to look our best we should take note that our hair needs a little more special care. You see, while everything around us is alive and kicking our hair is not! Hair has no blood supply and no nerve endings (hence the pain free haircuts). It is made up of a dead protein called Keratin. Just like the skin on our face, hair is also easily damaged by our surroundings and how we treat it, but unlike our skin, it is unable to repair itself. We often hear and use the term about hair being “dead on the ends” the truth is...it’s dead allover! So when it becomes damaged by us and the things we do, it can only be repaired by us and the things we do.
Summer time is a great time to invest in treatments and good quality products for your hair.
Here at Moodyhair, all our products are simply the best available by Redken NYC.
All the products are perfectly balanced to your hairs natural pH 4.5-5.5. They are extremely concentrated, which means you use small amounts and they last a very long time. In salon we often recommend Redken Chemistry System, a 3 part deep conditioning and rebuilding system using a uniquely prescribed combinations of proteins, moisturizers and essential ingredients to repair and protect your hair. The treatments take from 5 to 20 minutes and cost as little as £5 up to £15. After care home treatments are also available to buy at £19.95, used once a week they’ll have dramatic results and last you up to 3 months. All Redken products contain natural ingredients to deliver strength and softness, things like wheat, soy and silk proteins, Shea Butter and Candelilla wax. Be wary of hot oil treatments you might buy on the high street as they often just treat the surface of the hair and have no lasting impact. Instead consider amazing new Argan-6 Oil, the beautiful natural goodness of Argan oil combined with Redken’s cutting edge technology. (this is a fantastic product for everyone’s hair, even those of you who would never dream of putting oil in your hair...trust us!). Remember, make maintenance part of your routine, including regular cuts at the salon...and please care for your hair and let us advise you with professional products. Take notice of your hair, because your hair gets you noticed...in what way depends on you.

Chris has just returned from Stockholm this week after presenting at the city's coolest hairdressing and fashion event on behalf of Redken Swede
n.We posted a couple of pictures here of some of the models. The show was part of an event called Stockholm Hairdresser and it was held at the prestigious Berns Hotel. Chris presented a total of 12 models and was assisted on stage by Teemu Koivisto, a Swedish Redken Artist who Chris mentored last year in New York as part of the International Mentorsship Programme.
At this event Chris presented models who's long hair w
as dressed to create insprational sttling work forcasting current and future trends. This year long hair is classically dressed but with lots of added texture using mini crimping irons and a texture technique called Rik Racking. In addition Chris also demonstrated two creative haircuts using geometric lines and short disconnections, as well as models with creative colour techniques. All the colour for the event was created using Redken's new Chromatics, the revolutionary new ammonia free permanent colour. There are more pictures to see on our Facebook page, so make sure you check them out. Come back soon when we'll post more news about Chris's recent trips teaching in Dubai and presenting on stage to over 3000 hairdressers in Berlin, Germany.

Redken Chromatics! The biggest revolution in hair colour…ever!

As Spring leaps forward towards Summer the emphasis on hair is still all about condition, shine and reflection, and one of
the best ways to get all three is with the introduction of colour to your hair.
Pigment within the hair structure allows light to bounce and reflect, it’s this process that is the biggest contributor in creating shine in hair, especially when those “threads of wisdom” (aka grey hairs) are starting to appear.
You can still apply colour and keep hair healthy, in fact here at Moodyhair we have a new Ammonia Free colour system called Chromatics that actually makes the hair 2 x stronger after application. The key to this magic combo is known as “ammonia free” colour. Ammonia free products have been around on the high street and in the salons for quite some time now, but they have always been limiting. Not able to cover grey hair and never able to lighten they haven’t always been of use to everyone. But now for the first time we have a truly effective permanent hair colour that is 100% ammonia free.
Chromatics does everything previous haircolour products did. It lightens, darkens, adds tone, depth, vibrancy, it can cover 100% grey hair and it has amazing conditioning properties that fortify the hairs natural structure. This is the first time in hairdressing history that we can actually improve hair condition by adding colour!

For those of you that have been having our usual colour fusion, we will be transferring you over as more shades become available, so please be patient. For anyone wanting to try haircolour for the first time, Chromatics can do just about anything. There will be no smell, no tingle or sting and no loss of shine or hair condition. You will still need a skin test though at least 24 hours before we colour.
Come into the salon and let us tell you what Redken Chromatics can do for you.
