Chris in New York

Chris has just returned from coaching a group of International artists fir Redken in New York.

 Chris was invited at the begining of the year to become part of teh coaching team for Redken's International Mentorship Programme. The programme slects just 12 top hairstylists from different countries to train to become International Platfrom Artists able to present at Redken's biggest global events. Chris was invited by Redken to join Redken Global Art Director Chris Baran in coaching these people to  become top presenters. As well as  teaching and presenting on behalf of  Redken, Chris also spends a great deal of time coaching and mentoring the UK network of Reken Artists. His skills as a coach and his dedication were recognised in January 2011 when he was invited to to New York tocoach at an Internationa l level. Chris explains 'This coaching is at a much deeper level, it's not just about developong technical skills, but also giving people the confidence and ability to stand and present in front of 100's of people at some of the industry's biggest events". Chris will be starting with a new UK based group of hair artists in January when he begins coaching and mentoring 8 young people in readiness for their teaching careers. In February he'll have chance to practice what he preaches as he steps ut on stage hinself at the European Symposium in Berlin in front of 2500 hairdressers.

Fashion A/W '11

This Autumn/Winter the trends spilling out from all the Fashion Weeks are definitely themes of retro glam and voluminous hair.
Bee Hive buns, up do’s and high ponytails showed a big 60‘s influence, with soft, loose texture giving it a modern edge. Big hair was everywhere from John Paul Gaultier, Marc Jacobs, Julien McDonald and especially from the French Queen of Knits who started to debut in the ’60’s Sonia Rykiel.
So if you have shoulder length or below hair then this season is for you. Start thinking soft, modern bee hives and high crown, high loose ponytails and back combed, quiffed up fringes.
Remember, it’s about high hair, but most of all a soft, tousled texture, so it’s not trying too hard to be perfect. Soft finishing hairsprays are your best friend right now, try our humidity protection hair sprays from Redken like Fashion Work 12 and Quick Dry 18 at £12.00.
For medium length hair you can still go big and wide, maybe not every day, but great for treats and nights out. You can come in anytime for an expert blow dry service with any stylist. If you want to try it yourself, start by drying your roots upside down, especially the crown and sides, then use a round brush to really add fullness and turn those ends under. Add a little gentle backbrushing to add texture and lift, don’t over do it though. Take a thick section on the crown and gently brush down from the middle to the base about two or three times, the same at the side areas, use your hairspray to add a little pliability to soft hair. Remember, it’s about disheveled chic, so don’t worry about perfect.
Don’t think because you have short hair you have to miss out. Use your hair spray and brush to tease some volume into your crown, then very gently sweep the front and fringe from a low side parting and gently back brush the top layers to add that hazy texture.

Tribe 2011

We just had a great night out in London town last night. We travelled to attend Redken's main event in London called Tribe 2011. After a lesuirley train journey we all checked into the Novotel. Then it was off down Oxford Street fro some last minute shopping for some, and a trip to the British Library for the more cultured of us.

The event was held at the iconic music venue, The Brixton Academy. It was a cracking evening of hair, fashion and music. The main hair show was delivered by none other than our old friend and former Moodyhair stylist Andrew Barton. There was much drinking, carousing and merriement before the evening drew to a close at around 1am. We managed to get taxis just in time fro Chris to collapse and fall asleep allover poor Laura! Fortunatley, the gang could enjoy a leisurely 6 hour sleep beforethe train home and back into the salon the next day. Toronto

Moodyhair - latest adventures abroad. Chris has just returned to the salon after his recent trip teaching creative haircutting to hairdressers in Toronto, Canada.

Chris was invited by Redken Canada to teach in their flagship academy in Toronto. As such he is the first ever UK Redken Artist to do so.

This is Chris' third trip to Canada in 2 years, the last being to headline a major show on behalf of Redken in Halifax, NS, again the first Redken Artist from the UK to do so. On this trip Chris was asked to plan and deliver a programme of creative haircutting to 25 of Ontario's top hairstylists. Using a combination of demonstrations, hands on workshops, videos and diagrams Chris delivered a dynamic and inspiring programme of looks and techniques. "It was a huge privilige to be invited to do this" said Chris, "I wanted to make sure the haircuts were creative and inspiring, but also useable and salon wearable". He went on to say "the feedback was really positive, everybody in the class was great to work with, I think we connected really well, I love the Canadian people" Chris will be returning to Canada in May 2012 for their biggest National Event, FUSION '12, again the first ever UK artist to do so. Meanwhile there are more trips planned to the USA.
